The Halal Guys, New York’s famed food cart-turned restaurant chain, will open its second Chicago location at 11 a.m. on Friday. The restaurants’ gyros plates mixed with red hot sauced and mild white sauce arrived in the Gold Coast in August 2015. Another has since opened in suburban Skokie.

The franchise owners of the location at 172 N. Wabash Ave. also run the Gold Coast spot. Steven Chong and Vincent Tan are also opening a neighboring cafe on Friday in The Loop. Bean & Leaf is a separate concept, and they’ll serve coffee from Verve and Stumpdown coffee roasters. They’ll also have pastries from Bang Bang Pies and have Kombucha on tap.

The Halal Guys have more expansion plans for the Chicago area, as reps last year said they want to open five. They’ll give away T-shirts and bags on Friday afternoon, and The Loop location at 2,000 square feet will have more seats than in Gold Coast. Chong and Tan had to replace the seating after opening on Division Street with coolers to keep with the demand for food.
