10 Updates On Chicago Restaurants & Bars Opening Soon

Updates on a new Vice District, the Boss Bar taco spot, and more

HOMEWOOD— Vice District Brewing is expanding from their South Loop location. They're planning a larger brewery with at 75-seat taproom over in suburban Homewood, reported Crain's. It would be the village's first brewery and they're targeting an opening early next year.

LINCOLN PARK— Details aren't clear, but it looks like a new sports bar is going into the O'Malley's West space at 2249 N. Lincoln Ave. There's a help wanted ad that reveals some details. O'Malley's closed in May after 16 years.

RIVER NORTH— Signage is up for Fat Baby Tacos, the taco restaurant from neighboring Boss Bar. Ownership hasn't provided an update and there's no social media up and running yet for the spot at 109 W. Hubbard St.

RIVER NORTH— There's also signage up at Ironside Bar & Galleythe bar replacing Cyrano's Farm Kitchen at 546 N. Wells St. They're shooting to open late this month, according to a spokesman.

LINCOLN PARK— The windows over at the former Black Duck Tavern & Grill have words painted for The Willow RM at 1800 N. Halsted St. The project was originally called The Marq 1883, and DNAinfo reported that the American food will be a cut above the space's predecessor.

WICKER PARK— There's an update on the hotel crews are building at the intersection of Milwaukee/North/Damen. The Robey's rooftop bar will open in the fall, according to DNAinfo, and the rest of the hotel will open in November.

LAKEVIEW— Signage is up for a restaurant called Anatolian Express Mediterranean Grill over at 3151 N. Broadway St.

THE LOOP— Here's a bit of an update for the restaurant at the Residence Inn at LaSalle and Madison. Officials have applied for a liquor license for the Roanoke. They're planning a September opening, and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant's GM says they''ll use a hearth and rotisserie in the kitchen. They'll offer a carved prime rib sandwich, roasted mussels, seasonal salads and artisanal pizzas. There's 12 beers on tap, craft cocktails and 40 wines, plus a private dining space available from 10 to 80 people. Take a virtual rendered tour here.

HYDE PARK— Later this summer, Dollop Coffee Co. plans on opening its Hyde Park shop, according to a Facebook post, at 55th Street and University. A previous news release stated that the location would be "one of Chicago's biggest cafes" that "will combine a fast area for on-the-go students" plus "huge sections to study, have meetings and just hang."

LINCOLN SQUARE— A new diner is coming to Lincoln Square that will serve breakfast, brunch and lunch with the owner hoping to rent out the space at night to other chefs so they can host pop-ups. It's called What Came First?according to DNAInfo. There's no opening date yet for the restaurant at 2301 W. Foster Ave.
