Later this month, Lucky's Sandwich Co. Wicker Park — the Wrigleyville-bred and Pittsburgh-inspired restaurant and sports bar that once gained notoriety from an appearance on "Man v. Food" — will close. A co-owner of Lincoln Park's Compass Bar have taken over the space and plan on opening The Tankard, with a news release touting "a well-curated wine list, elevated menu and comprehensive beer selection." The switcheroo has been in the works for more than a month.
Lucky's last day at the location is July 25, and it ends after more than three years serving Pittsburgh-style sandwiches. A rep didn't provide an opening date for The Tankard.
Compass Bar, a pizza-themed drinking and eating establishment on Diversey, opened in 2014 after the ownership team met while working for Boka Restaurant Group. Co-owners Patrick Wrona and partners Philicia Mizell and Rob Colon have experience at both Boka and Celeste.
The Wrigleyville location of Lucky's, the one where TV crews assembled some eight years ago with host Adam Richman, is unaffected by the Wicker Park closure. The two locations have different ownerships, and are no longer affiliated with each other.
