Umami Burger, the California-based chain that uses Japanese umami flavors in its burgers, plans on opening its second Chicago location on July 25 in the West Loop, according to a news release. The 2,750-square-foot space at 945 W. Randolph St. has a patio and will have room to seat 100 indoors. There are also more meat-free small plates on the menu compared to the Wicker Park restaurant that opened in 2014.

One such meat-free item is the falafel burger. New menu items will include a nod to Korean cuisine with a gochujang short rib slider. The Monte Cristo burger comes between a vanilla custard-soaked and deep-fried bun with prosciutto, gruyere fondue, powdered sugar and a side of maple syrup. It's exclusive to the West Loop.

The West Loop burger buzz continues, as last week Shake Shack announced an upcoming location in the neighborhood. As if Au Cheval wasn't enough.
