Old Town's nightlife landscape is about to change again, as an Andersonville favorite is making its way to Wells Street. Lady Gregory's, the popular Irish pub that opened in 2011, recently posted signage that they were taking over the shuttered Citibank space at 1525 N. Wells St.

Co-owner Martin Cournane, who also runs Wylde in Lakeview, said they hope to open by the end of January. They'll bring down a similar menu from Andersonville, hoping to appeal to a broad audience, from families to whisky lovers. When they finish construction, they hope to build something Old Town takes pride in: "We want to become an integral part of the neighborhood," Cournane said.

Expect a U-shaped bar in the center, a library, three fireplaces and a wine room that will seat about 25. The latter two are signature features from Lady Gregory's Andersonville. The interiors will also feature plenty of dark wood. They're still sorting more details, as the opening isn't for around six months.

"We've been looking to do something different for a couple years," Cournane said. "But we're kind of fussy about where we were going to do it. We really wanted to find a neighborhood with lots of foot traffic and lots of residents."

Cournane hopes to fill a niche in Old Town, to serve more than the post-college crowd. Check back for more in the coming months.
