One fewer diner in Chicago

The windows are papered over at Maxim's Restaurant & Lounge. The Loop diner has been closed for about a month, leaving a void with downtown workers. Diners with throwback menus are a rare breed in Chicago, and now there's one fewer in the Loop.

This restaurant at 20 N. Clark St. isn't to be confused with the Gold Coast spot by the same name. Just last year, the city health department shut down Maxim's after failing a health inspection.

So what may fill that space? It's up for rent, but no party is actively looking at it, according to Accesso Partners, the real estate firm handling the property. Maybe a restaurant group will swoop in and open a new diner in the space. Or maybe they'll just open a cold-pressed juice bar.
