Giant, chef Jason Vincent's ironically-named first restaurant, is definitely not giant-sized. But the space, which holds two rows of banquette tables and a small kitchen counter in the rear, oozes understated creativity inside a pint-sized storefront on Armitage Avenue in Logan Square.
Vincent understates the design as well, describing it as "simple, modern contemporary with pops of color." On one side, textured wood walls frame the patchwork fabric banquettes below; while local artwork by Vincent's friend Nora Murphy Mills hangs on white-painted brick on the other side. Another of Vincent's friends handmade the natural wood tables which hold hooks for the menus to hang on. In the rear, a myriad of spice jars line shelves opposite the small open kitchen where six seats provide an up close view of Vincent and staff working the line. A patio will open out back in time for next year's al fresco season.
