Details are still scarce, but Albany Park's BreakRoom Brewery will close on Sunday. Ownership isn't ready to share full details, but there's speculation another brewery will take over the space. The brewery opened in March 2015, and management sent out an email to customers enrolled in their loyalty club breaking the news.
"This Sunday, May 8th, will be BreakRoom's last day of service as the establishment you've come to know," the email read. "That next day a new, soon to be announced, partnership will begin renovating the inside to create a better beer experience for you and all of Chicago."
Several bizarre circumstances have lead BreakRoom to this point. Their head brewer left the operation about a month before opening. A lawsuit was filed in January 2015 against BreakRoom founder Aaron Heineman, who was eventually phased out of the business. His name has since been scrubbed clean from the website. That's despite that the space for the bar was the "break room" for Heineman's now-defunct bar-making business.
The food came from former Gage/Henri chef Dirk Flanigan who was a consultant, and is now in charge of the kitchen at Ocean Cut. But even that received mixed reviews. However, neighborhood residents appreciated the establishment and took home beer-filled growlers, happy their area possessed a unique business.
As their email stated, ownership plans on releasing more information next week. Check back then for more.
