Today, the long-awaited sequel to Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits makes its North Side debut: "We're excited to be in Ravenswood, meet our new regulars, and just be a part of people's daily lives," owner Michael Ciapciak says, admiring the slow but steady stream of customers stopping in for coffee, pie, and biscuits on the shop's first morning.
The 35-seat space — divided between a communal table and two-tops overlooking Damen Avenue — is the sophisticated sister to the Logan Square spot. A magnet-covered fridge, chalkboard menu, and stacks of pie boxes pay tribute to its shabby-chic roots. A crystal chandelier suspended below a skylight, marble counter, and tufted leather couch in front of a stone fireplace suggest this Bang Bang caters to the slightly more mature Ravenswood crowd. This summer, Ciapciak will add an 18-seat sidewalk patio.
The menu, for now, mirrors the original, with seasonal pie, biscuit sandwiches, and loaded grits. Three new items include the wedge biscuit: a biscuit sandwiched with iceberg lettuce, bacon, blue cheese, hard-boiled egg, tomatoes, and buttermilk ranch dressing. The hot chix makes a triumphant return with spicy fried chicken, pimento cheese, truffle honey, and pickles. Lastly, any slice of pie can be serve a la mode with a scoop of Black Dog Gelato's malted vanilla gelato. An expanded retail section offers housemade granola, branded mugs, and Bang Bang's house coffee blend, which is roasted by Gastlight Coffee Roasters.
Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits, 4947 N. Damen Ave., is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays.
