Those spicy seafood-in-a-bag spots are popping up everywhere in Chicago, so it was only a matter of time before it hit that trendy stretch of Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square. The Crab Pad should open late spring at 2539 N. Milwaukee Ave. next to The Rocking Horse.

The concept was already popular in California, and over the last year it's really spread to Chicago, in part thanks to the success of The Angry Crab. DNAinfo's report mentioned one of the Crab Pad's co-owners was a partner at The Angry Crab. The report also stressed the new Logan Square spot has no affiliation with The Angry Crab. However, when asked about the connection, Angry Crab co-owner David Nguyen wasn't happy with Tran's description. He said Crab Pad co-owner Theresa Tran is a cousin of one of The Angry Crab's co-owners and that she only provided some advice. She wasn't a partner or co-owner: "She's piggybacking," Nguyen said.

Tran couldn't be reached for comment. Tran, via DNAinfo, pointed out how the seafood-in-a-bag concept isn't novel in California, saying she's pleased that Chicagoans are embracing it. Meanwhile The Angry Crab team is slowly progressing on their second location, set to open this spring in Wicker Park.
