Wondering what's happening to the Summerdale space in Andersonville? Workers are transforming the restaurant into a Kanela Breakfast Club and it's slated to open in May. It's the fifth location of the mini-chain from partners Chris Lardakis and former Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.

There's already signage in the window at 5413 N. Clark St. Summerdale closed in November, and the space went through some turnover before, as it also housed Marigold Indian Restaurant after it moved from the original location in Uptown.

Kanela opened its first breakfast concept in 2010 in Lakeview and has since expanded to Old Town, Wicker Park and Streeterville. It's a busy time for the Giannouliases, as older brother George last month opened Green Street Local in the West Loop, where reps say to expect a grand opening on Monday, March 7.
