Here's some big news for Loop workers: The Halal Guys are coming. They're gunning for a summer opening near Wabash and Lake, at 180 N. Wabash Ave., according to a news release. It's the second Chicago location for the New York cult favorites who began serving gyros and chicken last year in the Gold Coast.

Opening in the Gold Coast, near Clark and Division, was a learning experience, as management didn't originally expect so much demand. Soon after opening, management removed the tables and seats and replaced them with coolers so they could keep up with customers wanting their fix of white sauce. The Halal Guys started out as a food cart in New York, and their popularity continues, especially to satisfy late-night cravings. Check out their L.A. expansion plans here.

But experience has taught ownership, who stressed that the new space is larger, at 2,000 square feet, than the Gold Coast spot. They'll also have sidewalk seating for the spring and summer.

The same ownership behind the Gold Coast location will run The Loop spot. Vincent Tan and Steven Chong announced they're also opening a cafe, Bean & Leaf, next door where they will serve Stumptown Coffee and serve pastries. But as far as The Halal Guys, if neither location is still convenient for customers, there's hope. Ownership isn't done and could have an announcement on another location later this year. Remember, they plan on opening five in Chicago.
