Back in 2014, Four Corners Tavern Group (Benchmark, Gaslight, etc.) announced it was working on a Mexican concept and bringing in Brendan Sodikoff to collaborate on the West Loop restaurant. 20 months later, there's finally a bit of an update. Construction is underway on the restaurant they've named Federales Tequila & Tacos, although neither side have revealed an updated opening timeframe for the project that was originally scheduled to open in spring 2015.

So what do we know? It's a one-story building under construction in a previously vacant lot at 180 N. Morgan St. The construction site is fenced off, as workers continue to erect the building at the corner of Morgan and Lake. They haven't yet started on the interiors, but there's signage hanging on the fence announcing the restaurant's name and Four Corners' involvement. A website with a logo tells visitors that it's "coming soon," and a Facebook page includes a few shots of tacos.

Federales will join Rick Bayless' new spot (Cruz Blanca) and South Side import El Solazo as future Mexican options in the West Loop area. It's not the only team-up for Sodikoff and Four Corners, as construction continues on Wells Street in Old Town on Steak Bar. Neither side is ready yet to announce more details on either project, so stay tuned.
