Just in time for winter, Lincoln Park is getting a Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. The uber-popular Ohio-based ice cream parlor plans to open their third Chicago scoop shop on Friday, Dec. 16 at Foxtrot, the upscale grocer that’s opening at 900 W. Armitage Ave.
The neighborhood’s residents, many of them hailing from Ohio, make Lincoln Park an ideal venue for Jeni’s. Ownership is planning something special at this location as Jeni’s, for the first time at any of their shops, will serve waffles. These "Street Waffles" have interior textures like crullers and come with a choice of vanilla bean or salted maple glaze.

Previous speculation had Four Corners Tavern Group involved in this project, as the site's building permit listed the folks behind Benchmark, Federales and other barstaurants as owners. Instead it was revealed that Four Corners was merely a property investor and that the location would house a third Foxtrot, the company that began as a smartphone app where users shop for upscale alcoholic drinks and snacks. They’ve since expanded their operations and had already opened two stores.
Meanwhile, head to Jeni’s Lincoln Park at 7 p.m. on Dec. 16 to meet founder Jeni Britton Bauer and indulge in some free ice cream. The first 50 people in line will also get a free waffle and a bag stuffed with more freebies.
