Five months after taking over the Old Fifth space near the United Center, the owners of Union Sushi and the Franklin Room are preparing on Monday to open their third restaurant, Madison Bar + Kitchen. Mike Schatzman and his crew have revealed their menus which combine many of the elements from their other restaurants.
For example, there’s a sushi section featuring rolls including a truffle tuna hand roll, one of the more popular dishes at Union. They’re also serving up oysters, just like they do at Franklin Room. Chefs Gonzo Torres and Jirapa Dai from Franklin put together the Madison menu with Schatzman. Union executive chef Chao Thapthimkuna isn't involved, as he's concentrating on Union.
Despite the presence of those tried and true items, The Madison isn’t just about the greatest hits. Take the prime rib poutine. This hangover remedy comes with hand-cut fries, garlic, onion and curry gravy with chunks of house-made prime rib. The poutine also comes in chili and vegetarian varieties. There’s also 10 tavern pizzas including the "Little Village." That pie’s topped with chorizo, red sauce, caramelized onions, cilantro and chihuahua cheese.
But the menu goes beyond bar snacks. For those who want more than a sampling of prime rib, the beefy cut is available as an entree. Roast chicken and steak frites are also available.
Check out the menus, including the beer, cockail and wine lists below. Madison Bar + Kitchen is scheduled to open on Monday, Dec. 5 at 1027 W. Madison St. on the Near West Side.
