The music will not die in Wicker Park inside the Jerry’s Sandwiches space on Division and Damen. A new tenant, Rhyme or Reason, will continue live performances with plans to open in mid-January. There’s no work on what type of food the "mature 70s-inspired gastropub" will serve. However, musically they’re looking at disco, funk and soul.
Chris De La Cueva, who worked as chef de cuisine over at Union Park Lounge in the West Loop, will handle the menu at Rhyme or Reason, reported DNAinfo. De La Cueva isn’t the only Union Park tie, as that sports bar closed in 2015. An owner of Rhyme or Reason was part of Union Park’s investor group.
Though ownership is going for a 1970s theme, harkening back to afros, bellbottoms and perhaps not the most memorable music, management is stressing they’re opting for a modern twist. And the contradiction gave berth to the bar’s name.
After a nine-year run Jerry’s vacated the building as their ownership preferred to focus on locations in Andersonville and Lincoln Square. Their formula included jam bands and craft beer, vacating the side dining area for live music, mainly on weekend nights.
