In preparation for the new season of "The Gilmore Girls"—scheduled for a Nov. 25 premiere date on Netflix—coffee shops all across America are channeling Luke’s Diner, the restaurant where Lorelai and Rory Gilmore would score their caffeine fix. Netflix is giving away free coffee on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at participating shops. Two such Chicago coffee shops are participating in the promotion: Osmium Coffee Bar in Lakeview and Elaine's Coffee Call in Lincoln Park.
Employees will be decked out in Luke’s gear, and the Oct. 5 date coincides with the 16-year anniversary of the show’s debut. The promotion goes from 7 a.m. to noon.
Folks really do love their fictional TV restaurants. Luke’s played an integral part in "The Gilmore Girls'" seven seasons, allowing the show’s creators to showcase the quirky characters who lived in Stars Hollow, Conn.
