Michelin Reveals Chicago's 2017 Bib Gourmands

While Michelin should reveal their stars for Chicago next week, the esteemed tire company has released their latest Bib Gourmands list for Chicago, showcasing "quality restaurants that have menu items that offer two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (excluding tax and gratuity)." Fifty-two restaurants made the cut, down for from 58 last year. Here’s who made the list.

There are three newcomers (or re-entries) for 2017: The Bristol, Bucktown's new American staple that was on the list in before 2014; Dos Urban Cantina and their modern Mexican cuisine in Logan Square; and late-night Korean barbecue restaurant San Soo Gab San. That’s less than last year when Michelin added 10 new restaurants to their Chicago Bib Gourmand list for 2016.

Conversely, there are nine drop offs: Matthias Merges’ A10 in Hyde Park, Carriage House (which became Buck’s), Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises’ Beatrix; County Barbecue (which has been closed since August due to fire); Billy Lawless’ The Dawson; the legally-challenged Tony Hu’s Lao Sze Chuan; the once-legendary Pump Room; River North ramen spot Slurping Turtle; and Neopolitan pizza spot Spacca Napoli.

Fat Rice made the list, again, meaning they’re not in the running for a star. Dropping off the Bib Gourmand list could mean that restaurant's moving up into star territory, but Michelin doesn’t share their criteria for their rankings.
