Harry Potter fans better hurry in tonight to Emporium Arcade Bar in Logan Square. That’s when the bar, in collaboration with Central State Brewing, will debut Polyjuice Potion, a sour ale inspired by J.K. Rowling. The beer will be in cans until they sell out tonight in Logan Square and then on Saturday they’ll be on draft at Emporium Wicker Park, according to co-owner Danny Marks.
The launch party starts at 7 p.m., and Emporium’s encouraging HP costumes. Ever the gaming venue, Emporium is also touting something called the Quidditch Pong World Cup. Sorry, those pesky laws will prevent the game from being played with cups full of beer. Participants will have to play with cups full of water. They’re also selling custom glassware.
In the books and movies, Polyjuice Potion is carefully-concocted drink that allows the consumer to take on the appearance of someone else, provided they’ve procured a nail clipping or other body part as an ingredient. It’s the perfect drink for something nefarious.
Sour beers are increasing in popularity. Polyjuice is brewed with plums, elderberries and a dash of...magic. Good Beer Hunting noticed the release back in September, and TimeOut Chicago also reported the item.
Harry Potter continues to inspire Chicago’s food world. City Winery is hosting a pair of wizard-themed dinners that quickly sold out.
