They say this new West Loop restaurant opening today is one Bad Hunter. The restaurant, from Heisler Hospitality (Lone Wolf, Pub Royale, Trenchermen), will give Randolph Street some much-needed variety, especially when it comes to meat-free options. Bad Hunter is not 100-percent pure vegetarian, but the majority of the menu features creative vegetable-focused dishes aimed to please the pickiest omnivores.
There’s a bit of a retro vibe inside. Just look behind the bar where an analog sound amp sits in plain sight, between the liquor and plants. There’s plenty of green throughout the restaurant, obviously in keeping with the restaurant’s theme. Check out the counter that’s divided by a bevy of plants inside a space made to soak up the sunlight.
As for the menu, there’s veggie options including a beet tartare, tempura fried lemons and a veggie burger (that can be made non-veg with the addition of PQM bacon). Don’t worry: Meat eaters aren’t ignored with options like a lamb chop scottadito, a duo of fish entrees and a beef sirloin skewer. The desserts are also a big deal, with the hyped red curry squash tart on the opening menu.
