For months, the space directly west of Au Cheval on Randolph Street has stuck out like an eyesore as the windows remained boarded and construction crews scurried about inside. That site at 802 W. Randolph St. is home to Bad Hunter, the veggie-centric restaurant from the folks from Heisler Hospitality (Estereo, Sportsman’s Club, Trenchermen). Last week, Heisler finally put up the restaurant’s signage and they’re saying today that Bad Hunter will open on Wednesday next to Lone Wolf, the bar that’s also owned by Heisler.

Reservations are already live via Reserve, but reps say walk-ins are always welcome. They’ll launch with dinner service and eventually phase in lunch.

Bad Hunter’s pastry chef, Emily Spurlin, was featured over the weekend in a New York Times story on pastry chefs. The story mentions Spurlin’s vegan curry squash tart, which supposedly is a big hit in early returns from preview dinners.

The restaurant’s name is a joke. Vegetarians don’t have to hunt for their food. The focus on veggies seems holistic, extending even to Bad Hunter’s drink list. Check out this pea-based cocktail, and check back soon for more on the opening.

Note: The pea cocktail won't appear on the drink list.
