Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises isn't letting Paul Kahan and The Publican have all the fun at O'Hare International Airport. LEYE is looking at early spring for the opening of Summer House Santa Monica inside Terminal 2. Lettuce already has four restaurants at the airport's international Terminal 5.
This version of Summer House, the third (joining the original in Lincoln Park and one in Bethesda, Md.) will serve customers from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering breakfast sandwiches, salads, tacos and burgers inside a 40-seat dining room, according to a Lettuce statement. Hurried travelers will also have grab and go options, hopefully an upgrade from those sometimes stale and soggy sandwiches left in some coolers. Baked goods including Summer House's signature cookies and English muffins will be made in-house. There's also a bar serving up cocktails and a California-inspired wine list.
Summer House will be near Wicker Park Sushi, an HMSHost creation that's drawn well. HMSHost officials last week said they have big plans to add more dining choices to O'Hare, but weren't ready to share details. They're collaborating with LEYE in the same way they are working with One Off Hospitality Group with The Publican, so that means LEYE gift cards won't be valid at the ORD location.
The addition may help console travelers going through Terminal 2, which is the only O'Hare terminal without a Tortas Frontera By Rick Bayless.
