—The second Firecakes is opening on Sunday, bringing its brand of doughnuts from River North to 2453 N. Clark St. in Lincoln Park. The first 100 customers each of the first three days (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday) will get a free doughnut.
—Wicker Park club-goers are getting a new spot soon in a location many will remember. Annex Nightclub is close to opening in the second-floor space above Wicker Park Tavern that previously housed Ohm at the North/Damen/Milwaukee nexus, and its Facebook page says the "polished remodel" is 6,000 square-feet with 38-foot ceilings, a 75,000-watt soundsystem, and its hiring for doorstaff, bartenders, servers, bottle hosts, and more.

—Another Just Salad is heading to 135 S. LaSalle in the Loop—the Field Building—according to a building permit. It would be Chicago's second location of the NY-based salad-focused restaurant chain.
—Appellation, Pastoral's new-ish restaurant and wine bar in Andersonville, is beginning weekend brunch service tomorrow. The adjoined Pastoral market is also beginning morning counter-service breakfast on Tuesday. Check out the brunch menu below.
—The 15th season of "Check, Please!" kicks off tonight at 8:00 p.m., when host Catherine De Orio and three Chicagoland diners check out J.P. Graziano, Ada Street and Deka. The season concludes with a "chef's choice" episode on Feb. 26, featuring Grant Achatz, Curtis Duffy, Michael Kornick, Bill Kim, and other prominent chef's favorite restaurants that were featured in previous seasons.
