Spike Mendolsohn's Good Stuff Eatery isn't going to arrive at the New City development. A restaurant rep confirmed that there's no lease for a location of the "Top Chef" alum's burger joint at the new mega-shopping center at Clybourn and Halsted. Reports emerged at the end of 2014 that Mendolsohn would open the second of two Chicago iterations of his fast-casual concept there.
"We don't have any plans to open in the New City Development," the rep emailed. "We, nor have our franchisee, signed a lease for a space at that property."
Instead, Chicagoans only have the Good Stuff Eatery in The Loop which opened in January 2015. There's still plenty of chain options inside New City, including Nando's Peri-Peri, Earl's and Yard House. A New City rep couldn't be reached for comment.
UPDATE: A rep from Good Stuff's parent, Sunnyside Restaurant Group, said they never had plans for New City, but they intend to open additional locations in Chicago. They don't have any news yet, but she called Chicago a "great match."
