AROUND TOWN— Chicago's getting a second Halal Guys soon. The franchisee, which owns the Gold Coast spot on 49 W. Division St., wouldn't disclose the second location, but they posted an announcement on Facebook for rabid fans.
WICKER PARK— En Hakkore, which gives diners unique tacos with Korean fillings and Indian flatbreads on Damen Avenue in Bucktown, has a second location moving into the Mondo Meatball spot a few blocks south at 1467 N. Milwaukee Ave. They'll operate both restaurants simultaneously, according to DNAinfo.
ANDERSONVILLE— There's a new tenant for the former Hoppin' Hots and Great Lake Pizza space, according to DNAinfo. Defloured, a gluten-free bakery, plans to open early this year at 1477 W. Balmoral Ave. The bakers have sold their goods at farmer's markets and operated out of a space near Western and Fullerton.
DEPAUL— The former Duck Walk at 1217 W. Fullerton Ave. has a replacement, the second location of Japanese kitchen and sushi restaurant Umai. They posted a help wanted ad, saying that they plan on opening in February. Umai's original spot is at 730 S. Clark St. in the South Loop.
RIVER NORTH— The owner of Boss Bar, Shay Ghazimoradi, is listed on a liquor license application for something called Fat Baby Tacos. The presumed taco restaurant would replace a former adult bookstore at 109 W. Hubbard St. Ghazimoradi hasn't returned requests for comment.
WEST RIDGE— The family behind Garcia's, the Lincoln Square Mexican favorite, has a new project. They're opening a new Mexican restaurant inside the former Swiss Pastries bakery at 7511 N. Western Ave., according to DNAinfo. The new spot should open this spring.
WICKER PARK— Snow and cold have snarled roof work and delayed the opening of Whiskey Business, the boozy companion to Cheesie's Pub & Grub at 1356-57 N Milwaukee Ave. But the opening will happen soon, as ownership says they're picking up the liquor license today.
LOGAN SQUARE— The Hopewell Brewing Co. hopes to open its taproom by the end of the month at 2760 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to DNAinfo. They'll brew five beers to start, and be open until 10 p.m.
SOUTH LOOP— Belly Up Smokehouse & Saloon is close to opening, as the restaurant passed a license inspection and is hiring staff for the upcoming spot at 1132 S. Wabash Ave. The barbecue restaurant and bar comes from the owners of the Bellwether.
ROGERS PARK/EDGEWATER— The Growling Rabbit, a far north side American restaurant and brunch standby, is moving south to Edgewater from their Rogers Park home of the last four and a half years at 6981 N. Sheridan Road. The move, according to DNAinfo, comes after security concerns and a couple burglaries in Rogers Park. They're taking over the former St. Andrews Inn at 5938-40 N. Broadway St.
