Streeterville's not only getting a new boozy Target, as Molly's Cupcakes plans a second bakery right next door. Signage went up last week on the building, but the Lincoln Park-based cupcake cafe caused a bit of commotion when they posted a photo on Facebook earlier today. They estimate a January or February opening at 419 E. Illinois St.

A Molly's manager in Lincoln Park didn't have any further details, except that it would be a full-fledged location. Though cupcakes seemingly had their heyday ten years ago, the new Molly's has generated excitement, as did news that Lincoln Park cupcake-comrades Sweet Mandy B's will provide baked goods for a stand inside the United Center.
Molly's is known for their playful interiors, which include park swings, and their toppings, thanks to a "sprinkle station." They also have locations in New York and Iowa City. A kitchen expansion for the Lincoln Park location is still in the works, as scaffolding remains next door at 2536 N. Clark St.
