While Target continues to keep mum on their boozy plans, the chain has finally revealed an opening date for its Streeterville store, planned to be its first to serve alcohol in America. Signs placed on the sidewalk outside the site at Illinois Street and McClurg Court show an Oct. 11 opening.
Target still hasn't provided specifics for their bar area, as the Streeterville store may be a test to see if boozy stores could work across the country. The chain obtained a license with Chicago officials over the summer to serve liquor inside the store, and the license application showed an intention to open what looked like a wine bar with small plates. Store officials still haven't commented about the bar. The Target Express fills the building that's been shuttered since Fox & Obel went out of business in 2013 at 401 E. Illinois St. So what's with Target's reluctance to share? Perhaps they're waiting until buzz surrounding the boozy Taco Bell Cantina dies down.
