Logan Square eaters will get a chance to slurp chef Shin Thompson's ramen at a furious pace this winter. An expanded bar version of Furious Spoon, Thompson and the Takito guys' popular Wicker Park ramen spot, is slated to open on that ever-expanding Milwaukee Avenue strip in Logan by the end of the year. Owner Anshul Mangal signed a lease this week at 2410 N. Milwaukee, taking over the El Charro neighborhood Mexican restaurant that includes a second floor rooftop space.
The new location will be more of a bar and hangout than the original, so you'll be able to kick back and relax with a drink when you're not eating quickly. Mangal and Thompson are planning to turn the rooftop into an 80-100 seat bar they're calling "Drunkn' Spoon," serving cheap beer, $6-8 cocktails, and yakitori chicken skewers from a charcoal grill. The downstairs 100-seat restaurant will serve a similar selection of ramen, sides and drinks as the original. Thompson is picking up a new noodle machine for the expansion.
The original Furious Spoon opened just south of the Wicker Park hub in February and quickly became a ramen hotspot due to Thompson's house-made noodles, late hours, cheap prices, and creative marketing. Don't be surprised to see more Furious Spoons on the horizon, beginning with this Logan Square expansion that's slated to open before the end of the year.
