Duran European Sandwiches and Cafe is joining the growing list of restaurants that are closing at the end of the month. According to a note on its website and Facebook page, the adorable mini-sandwich, coffee, dessert and baked goods cafe is closing on August 30 after more than two years on Milwaukee Avenue in River West. Ownership reveals that the amount of business relative the size of the space is the reason.
It is with deep regret that I announce that Duran will be closing its doors on August 30. We appreciate your patronage, and it was our absolute pleasure to serve you fresh hand crafted delicious food! We tried to hang on, but the business just did not support this space. There is a possibility of going in across the street, and if there are any developments I will post them here.
Again, we thank all of you who came in day in day out. You are appreciated!
As they say " Ends are not bad things, they just mean that something else is about to begin."
The space is large—including a big outdoor patio and garden—and ownership is hopeful of moving to a smaller space, even tossing around the idea of sliding across the street. Duran opened in March 2013 and you have just less than two weeks to go there again, at least for now.
