Hopleaf Starts Monthly Beer Socials; Le Cordon Bleu Student Wins Contest; More

Al's Beef is bringing back the jumbo Ditka Dog and Dawn Wilson's hosting another pop up.

ANDERSONVILLE— The Hopleaf and Big Shoulders are hosting a new monthly beer social. The regular event will be on the second Tuesday of the month and include beer samples, snacks and chats with local brewers. It's at the Hopleaf's upstairs bar and tickets cost $25, and can be bought here. The inaugural event is on Tuesday featuring Metropolitan and Off Color Brewing. RIVER WEST— A 25-year-old Australian transplant has won a Kendall College/Le Cordon Bleu College student sandwich-making contest and will have her sandwich appear on menu at Hannah's Bretzel. The sandwich is called the Keen Wow Delight, and will be available starting on Monday. It's topped with quinoa, kale, sun-dried tomatoes, Manchego, chips, pickled onions, herb salad and jalapeños. AROUND TOWN— Al's Beef is bringing back the Ditka Dog to all of its locations for July. It's a 1/3 pound of Vienna beef in three varieties: Original (mustard, relish, onion, sport peppers), Chicago Style (mustard, relish, onion, sport peppers, tomatoes, pickle spear) and Maxwell (mustard, grilled onion and sport peppers). RAVENSWOOD— Chef Dawn Wilson's hosting another pop-up dinner, this time on July 30 at Brix Catering, 1463 W. Leland. Tickets cost $65, plus an option $95 wine pairing.
