There are a few new wrinkles for Coalfire Pizza's first new location in more than eight years. Besides the new, larger space, which you can look around here, owner Dave Bonomi did something he's never done: hire an outside chef. That man is Gianni Gallucci, who says he's one of only five VPN-certified pizzaiolis in the Chicago area.
Gallucci will make a few new pizzas for Coalfire Two, including a stracciatella and sausage pie and 'Nduja shrimp with rapini. The Southport location will serve slightly smaller pizzas than the original on Grand (14-inch rather than 16-inch) at a lower price, as well as a new rotation of appetizers.
Another new wrinkle for the Southport spot is a full 12-seat bar, which will serve cocktails for the first time as well as a larger beer and wine selection. The cocktail menu wasn't available at press time but read the beer and wine lists, as well as the full food menu, below.
After more than eight years, Coalfire Pizza opens its first expansion today at 4 p.m. at 3707 N. Southport.
Coalfire Pizza Southport, Tuesday - Thursday and Sunday 4:00 p.m. - 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 4 p.m. - 11 p.m., 3707 N. Southport Ave., (773) 477-2625
