The Streeterville eating and drinking scene has slowly been gaining momentum, and the downtown east of Michigan Avenue set will soon get a restaurant and bar from one of the country's top restaurateurs and the folks behind the newly-minted "World's Best Bar." Greenriver, the Irish-themed bar and eatery from Danny Meyer (Shake Shack), the team behind NYC's Dead Rabbit and former Celeste chef Aaron Lirette, is heading to 259 E. Erie, the new Northwestern Hospital Outpatient Center, according to a liquor license application that lists the address on the 18th floor and includes an outdoor patio. The building also houses a Stan's Donuts, a LYFE Kitchen and a How Do You Roll, and the forthcoming second Beatrix (formerly Cicchetti) is steps away.
The Greenriver team had previously kept the location under wraps, and a rep says they'll release more information next month. The Irish-themed whiskey-centric spot is slated to open sometime this summer, according to previous reports.
Dead Rabbit just won the "World's Best Bar" and "World's Best Cocktail Menu" awards yesterday at the 2015 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, and that pedigree will soon be on display in Streeterville at one of the most anticipated openings of the year. In related news, no Chicago bars won awards in New Orleans.
Stay tuned for more Greenriver intel soon.
