32 months after Bon Appetit crowned Au Cheval's burger the best in America, Food Network has jumped on Brendan Sodikoff's burger bandwagon. The cable channel's new show "Top Five Restaurants," which according to a promo are the "definitive lists" of what restaurants serve America's top five versions of different foods, boldly gave Au Cheval's burger another accolade—also naming it the best burger in America.
The Food Network show, hosted by Geoffrey Zakarian and Sunny Anderson, exalts Au Cheval's "perfect burger-to-cheese ratio." It beat out Brindle Room in New York, Pie 'n Burger in Pasadena, Calif., Sid's Diner in El Reno, Okla., and Mission Bowling Club in San Francisco for the show's top honors.
Even if multiple national publications say Au Cheval's burger is tops in the country, don't tell that to Sodikoff and his staff. "If we say we make a pretty good burger, they'll make their own assessment," general manager Erika Golz said in April. Food Network's assessment is that it's the best in the country—what will happen to the wait times now?
