Lynn Malec wants her new project, Catalpa Cafe, to feel different from the French bistro atmosphere of her former restaurant, La Tache. The new cafe, slated for a June 20 opening at 2800 W. Logan Blvd., will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, but will have more of a mass appeal.

"It pretty much has something for everyone with some Latin flare and some Italian dishes," Malec said.

There's a full bar with beer on tap, and they'll also do cold-pressed juices for the health conscious. It's also for the adventurous — juices can be livened up with a shot of tequila. Catalpa will seat about 50 inside, with a large, private patio with seating for about 40 outdoors. There's an open kitchen and Malec describes a casual feel, with reclaimed wood for a vintage vibe.

La Tache eventually gave way to Vincent in 2010 in Andersonville. That's where Girl and the Goat's Stephanie Izard cut her teeth. Malec is no longer involved with Vincent, but said she's reached out to Izard for advice on this new endeavor.

Malec solicited her Facebook friends last year for suggestions on what to name her restaurant. After noticing the Catalpa trees that line the streets near the restaurant, she decided on Catalpa Cafe. Check back later for more details on the menu as the opening date grows closer.
