On May 1, Eater NY reported that superstar restaurant mogul Danny Meyer and the company from the folks behind NYC's acclaimed cocktail bar The Dead Rabbit would open a bar somewhere in the United States. It turns out that that bar (and restaurant) will be in Chicago, that it's an Irish bar, and that it will open this summer. But the exact location remains under wraps.
It'll be named GreenRiver, Chicago Mag reports, will be whiskey-centric, and former Celeste chef and Acadia chef de cuisine Aaron Lirette will run the food program. Stay tuned for more intel.
The Dead Rabbit, run by Irishmen Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry, has drawn praise from nearly everywhere since opening in New York's Financial District in February 2013. Meyer's group just opened their second Shake Shack in Chicago today and a third is heading to Skokie soon. Now they're collaborating to bring a bar to Chicago that promises to be a hotspot—much more to come on this developing story.
