Today's the day that Chicago gets its second Shake Shack. While the rest of the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel food and beverage spots opened yesterday, the ground-floor outpost of Danny Meyer's line-inducing burger, hot dog and frozen treat haven officially opens its doors at 11 a.m. Look out for lines across from Millennium Park.
The long narrow space, which is accessible via the whitewashed street entrance or through the hotel's ground floor, takes its cues from designer Roman and Williams' restoration of the historic private club on Michigan Avenue that's now open to the general public for the first time. Classic woodworking is the interior's hallmark, with booths reminiscent of train station seating, four-tops, high-tops, a communal front counter, and sidewalk patio the places to park yourself with a burger.
