The imminent demise of the Mirabell Restaurant apparently has been greatly exaggerated. The owner of the longtime German mainstay announced he's not closing just yet, and he's looking for a new buyer who will hopefully keep it open for good.
Overwhelming response from customers led to the decision to keep open with reduced hours. There's a stripped-down menu, as one Facebook announcement says they'll remain open "at least for the next several weekends." Owner Jeff Heil told NBC Chicago that he hopes that whoever the new ownership is maintains its traditions. He has attempted to sell, but has struggled, saying "no one wants a German restaurant."
Mirabell has only been open from Thursdays through Saturdays for the last few months in order to reduce hours. Heil wants to sell the 38-year-old restaurant in order to move to Texas.
