WEST LOOP—Rick Bayless has pulled back the curtain on his forthcoming project, revealing a number of details, including a name, Cruz Blanca. Inspired by a mid-19th century French brewer, La Guardia (featuring hominy, epazote, lime peel and coriander), will be the "flagship beer" for Cruz Blanca, which will feature a ten-barrel brewing system, a tasting room, a growler program (along with large bottles of brew) and, of course, food. La Guardia will make its debut soon at the Wicker Park XOCO before making its way to Frontera Grill. Cruz Blanca is set to open in the fall. [Tribune]
PILSEN—To cap off Craft Beer Week, Thalia Hall is hosting "Crap Beer Day" this Sunday, May 24, featuring a selection of $1 beers (Lone Star, Schlitz, Hamm's) that are also available in "crap beer buckets." There's also High Life 40s for bottle service and the Golden Horse Ranch Band will instruct in the ways of square dancing. The event starts at 4:00 p.m. and wanders down to Dusek's around midnight. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here. [EaterWire]
RIVER NORTH—Speaking of beer, enjoy a Peroni and take in up to eight different pizzas at Eataly next Thursday, May 28. You can spend $4 and get either a taste of pizza (or a Peroni) or go all-in and spend $28 to get a Peroni and sample all eight pizza stations. The choice is yours. [EaterWire]
NORTH CENTER—We reported last week that Southport & Irving would be debuting their new late-night brunch menu and now you get to see what's in store below. [EaterWire]
