Welcome back to Eater Chicago's Ramen Battle. Round one's in the books, and the response has been strong thanks to social media campaigns by some shops and the overall enthusiasm of the electorate. Before sharing the results, just an FYI: Round two voting will start today and run until 9 a.m. on Monday.
So who advanced? The Slurping Turtle ran away from Wasabi, as 1,211 voted in this contest, giving the Turtle a 60 percent to 39 percent win. Meanwhile, Wicker Park rivals Furious Spoon and Oiistar dueled and 594 voters cast ballots. The Furious Spoon cruised to a 63 percent to 36 percent win. That sets up a round two match up between the Furious Spoon and Slurping Turtle.
In the most hotly-contested match up of round one, Yusho eked out a 50 percent to 49 percent win over Strings, with both sides showing some serious social media savvy in getting out the vote with 4,099 votes cast. On the other side of the bracket, a surprise, as Ramen-san enjoyed a comfortable 59 percent to 40 percent win over High Five Ramen, with 1,605 votes cast. Ramen-san was backed by its own social media campaign, while spicy food lovers mourned High Five's defeat. The next round features Yusho versus Ramen-san in a titanic tilt.
How will round two shape up over Easter weekend? Voter early and often, ramen lovers, it's the Chicago way.
