Brendan Sodikoff's taken another step in his quest to transform that Humboldt Park intersection of California Avenue and Augusta Boulevard. This time it's through a stealthy opening of a new coffee shop. This morning the Hogsalt restauranteur announced the opening of C.C. Ferns Coffee.

There's a void for coffee drinkers in the area as Knockbox Cafe closed in the fall due to increased rent at 1001 N. California Ave. The building's landlord has been working with Sodifkoff to remake the intersection.

Hogsalt reps didn't return an email sent this morning seeking comment. But it appears through photos that they're pouring La Colombe Intelligentsia coffees at 2806 W. Augusta Blvd. Photos also reveal some rather decadent-looking donuts available, as well as various beverage syrups. There also looks like a retro living room feel inside with the decor.

Sodikoff does have big plans for the street corner, and in September took over The California Clipper, just north of the intersection. He installed a new cocktail menu and leaving his imprint at the popular dive bar, but vowed not to increase drink prices.

What will Sodikoff and Co. deem the area needs next? Stay tuned.

UPDATE: This post on EveryBlock has more details. Apparently the coffee shop is located in the back of the California Clipper bar, with a new entrance off of Augusta.
