Barcocina's May Arrival Bringing Influx of Creative Tacos to Lakeview

The second outpost of the modern Mexican-inspired concept has many new dishes from chef Matt Williams.

Barcocina is going to hit Lakeview in May, bringing "cheeseburger" tacos, yucca tots and lobster guacamole to Chicagoans. The restaurant at 2901 N. Sheffield will seat 185 (a patio area has to go through an approval process and is not expected until next year) and will offer multiple garage doors that will be opened up during the warmer months.

The concept, originated in Baltimore, is "Mexican-inspired," thus freeing chef Matt Williams (who spent time with Brendan Sodikoff's Hogsalt group) from the rigid confines of authenticity. Williams has managed to stay within the first location's concept even while filling out his menu with a good deal of completely new dishes (lamb French dip tacos, pork belly rebocado).

The cocktail side goes the big flavor route, with a basil bramble cocktail (Hendrick's gin, muddled strawberry, basil, jalapeno syrup and lemon juice) and the Texas pina (mescal, pineapple juice, agave nectar, lime juice, mint and grilled pineapple foam). View the full food and drink menus below.

Once open in May, Barcocina will be serving Sunday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. (with the bar open until midnight), Friday and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. (2:00 a.m. for the bar). They plan on introducing Saturday and Sunday brunch in the summer.
