Two years in the making, Pearl's Southern Comfort finally opens today in Edgewater. Owner Danny Beck hopes his cajun and creole cuisine will help liven up the neighborhood, serving up jambalaya and other Louisiana favorites.

Beck, who also runs Toon's Bar & Grill, will open Pearl's today at 5352 N. Broadway St. Eli's Cheesecake can move over, as Chicagoans will finally get a taste of savory crawfish cheesecake as one of the small plates Pearl's offers. Crispy boudin balls and New Orleans BBQ shrimp round out some of the regional favorites, followed by barbecue selections like slow-smoked pork shoulder and Kansas City-style ribs. Blackened catfish makes the southern menu familiar, along with a couple of po boys (one with "pig meat").

Check the food menu out below, and don't forget the cocktails. Yes, there's a hurricane on the drink menu, and while you won't be able to take the drink to go, like folks do on Bourbon Street, it only adds to Pearl's southern charm.
