It may not be full-on patio season yet, but al fresco enthusiasts in the West Loop will get a new sidewalk cafe sometime next month from the folks behind Nellcote and Old Town Social. Named Expat, the new spot will be a seasonal, outdoor-only small plate and drinking cafe located on the sidewalk outside the alley entrance to RM Champagne Salon on Green Street.
The menu is still a work in progress, but expect a selection of oysters, crudo, small plates, raw vegetables, sandwiches, salads and desserts. Beverage options should include wines by the glass, a large selection of rose, canned beers, signature cocktails, craft shots with "creative" backs, and boozy snow cones—rose and limoncello flavors are in the works.
Considering the continued development of Green Street—Expat will be across the street from Soho House—it should be a hot spot for sun-soaking and people-watching come patio season in May.
