Maybe it was the new Fulton Market District metal arch that attracted Gus's World Famous Chicken? Whatever the case, the Trib's Kevin Pang reports that the ownership from the Memphis-based chain has picked a West Loop spot on the hot strip that includes the Publican, Next and Ramen Takeya.
Gus's management is gunning for an October or November opening inside a 3,000-square-foot space at 847 W. Fulton Market, according to the Tribune. Also nearby, crews continue work on Google's upcoming Chicago headquarters at 1000 W. Fulton Market.
But be warned. There could be a looming, heated — or at least spicy — chicken war in the West Loop. About two blocks south on Randolph Street, construction continues on Nando's Peri-Peri. The South African grilled chicken chain plans to open its first Chicago restaurant next month at 953 W. Randolph St. "Coming soon" signs recently went up at that site.
