Spicy food fans have another reason to wish for winter's end as Nando's Peri-Peri is slating the opening of its first Chicago restaurant for May in the West Loop. Lakeview gets one in June and Lincoln Park in September.
That's a bit of a switch, as the South African-based chain planned to open its second Chicago restaurant in Lincoln Park. Blame construction delays to the New City development for the switch, as that development's opening continues to be pushed back. Nando's Lincoln Park's opening was to coincide with a spring opening for the sprawling retail site under construction at Halsted and Clybourn. The West Loop's site is at 953 W. Randolph St., and Lakeview's is at 670 N. Diversey Parkway.
It's Nando's first major expansion in seven years, and Chicago beat out Boston and Philadelphia for that honor. The South African chicken chain arrived in America in 2008, and has stuck to the Washington, DC/Baltimore area with 20 locations. Nando's operates more than 1,000 restaurants worldwide.
