In the works for more than 16 months, Albany Park is finally getting a brewery and brewpub when Breakroom Brewery officially opens to the public today at 4 p.m. The space is carved out of the front of the longtime workshop of Aaron Heineman, a bar-builder that was featured on the Discovery Channel early this month, in a corner space on Montrose west of California.
High, arched wood ceilings frame the first floor taproom and eatery, where long communal tables, high-tops, and a bar peek into Heineman's rear workshop and a small glass-enclosed tank room. A small semi-open kitchen in the rear cranks out acclaimed local chef Dirk Flanigan's food, and a staircase leads to a balcony of sorts where chairs and standing-room keg tables overlook the operation.
Head back to this post to read the opening beer and food menus. Regular hours, including staying open until midnight on weeknights and 2 a.m. weekends, begin tonight.
