Meatballs are joining the hipsters rolling down Milwaukee Avenue as Mondo Meatball opens today. Starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, the meatball specialty restaurant will give diners a variety of ways to enjoy their balls, as beef, turkey and veggie options all appear on the menu.
That menu is like the meatball version of the United Nations with Greek, Korean, Italian, Thai and Mexican flavors. Owner Dean Casagrande is most excited for the "Chick'n Bacon" meatball topped with "Guac-acado," a sauce made of avocado and sour cream. He called the combo "pretty mind blowing."
Patrons can pick a bowl, submarine, slider or salad configurations before selecting a sauce to top their chosen spheres. Sides including polenta, risotto and potatoes round out the menu. A full bar, with cocktails like the "Pimo's Cup" (Pimm's plus Italian soda), is also on premises. Black Dog Gelato offers something sweet to end the meal.
Mondo is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday, though this Friday they'll open at 4 p.m. Sundays they're open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. They'll be closed this coming Monday, but will being normal business hours on Tuesday.
