Here's some bad news for fans of the Bad Dog Tavern in Lincoln Square: Management's closing the bar on Sunday at midnight.
The same ownership that owns Merkle's in Wrigleyville and the Riverview Tavern in Roscoe Village informed customers Tuesday night via Facebook:
Within the same Facebook thread, ownership said they'll open "an exciting new place, same location" by mid March. For seven years, Bad Dog served up food and drinks, and even hosted trivia on Thursdays. Its large outdoor area drew patrons during the summer and spring, and New York Giants and University of Tennessee fans claimed the Bad Dog as their Chicago home for football and basketball seasons. Bad Dog reassured patrons that the new bar will also cater to Vols' fans.
An email to the bar for further details surrounding the closure and info about the new bar wasn't returned. Check back for any updates.
UPDATE: Owner Chad Kramer replied, writing that Bad Dog management decided to invest more money into the location to update the kitchen, interior and a patio that customers "will love even more."
"No need to miss the patio, it will be back open in time for Mother Nature's re-awakening!" Kramer wrote.
