The River North project from Michigan-based Peas & Carrots Hospitality Group will be called Bernie's Lunch & Supper. And it will be one of two in Chicago from the expanding group helmed by chef Zack Sklar.

Ownership hopes to open the restaurant in June at 660 N. Orleans St., said Peas & Carrots partner Josh Humphrey. Humphrey, through a spokeswoman, described the restaurant as having a menu that leans toward Mediterranean flavors.

"The food will be sexy enough for a Saturday date night, but approachable enough for a Tuesday bite after work," Humphrey said.

Peas & Carrots, which is known for Mex in Bloomfield, Mich. and Social Kitchen & Bar in Birmingham, Mich., also has plans for a second restaurant in Chicago. The spokeswoman confirmed those plans, but had no further details. Chef Zack Sklar is the 29-year-old force behind the restaurant group, which continues to expand in the Detroit area.

"We love the food scene in Chicago. We love the people, energy and market and even love the competition," Humphrey said. "This by no means takes away from our passion for the great city of Detroit. Instead, it allows us to spread our wings and continue to learn and grow."
