If you're counting, Chicago's penchant for craft cocktail lounges has brought upscale tippling establishments to many neighborhoods around the Windy City. Yet the gentrified area north of Wicker Park and south of Logan Square has been curiously lacking them, which will change when Presidio opens in the former Bluebird space on Damen in roughly two weeks.
A sleek front lounge is the first thing you'll see at Presidio, where a small cluster of couches and chairs sits immediately on the left. A long bar with furry stools is just beyond, opposite an elevated lounge area with modern silver backless couches. The more secluded rear dining room is filled with red velvety banquettes, a communal table, and a window into the kitchen. The long space is lined with exposed brick, auburn wood trim, and framed photos of owner Patrick Cullen's native San Francisco Bay Area.
While Bluebird was a low-key wine-focused bistro good for dates and gatherings before it shuttered in June, Presidio should provide a similar outlet for the neighborhood, but trendier, louder and craft cocktail-focused, in around two weeks.
